Our grouping was established in 2011 as an economically independent legal personality, a non-profit organization consisting of self-governments. Our Tatabánya-based Grouping currently includes five members: the founding Nagyszombat District Municipality, the Győr-Moson-Sopron County Municipality and the Komárom-Esztergom County Municipality, as well as the Bratislava District Municipality and the Pest County Municipality, which joined in 2015.
Our aim is to promote cross-border cooperation between our members – through cooperation programs and projects – in order to strengthen economic, social and territorial cohesion. While carrying out tasks, we can also carry out economic activities aimed at raising the competitiveness of the region, in compliance with legal regulations, without endangering our goals, and we can establish and operate institutions necessary for the performance of our tasks.
And why is this so important? Our nations lived together for a long time and then side by side. Now we have another opportunity to work together, the legal framework for which is provided by the European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation. However, the Rába – Danube – Vág EGTC is not only an opportunity but also a responsibility for Hungary and Slovakia. It is a means of implementing common developments and raising the living standards of the population on both sides of the Danube.
